Taxability of alimony

This query is : Resolved

26 July 2019 A couple has been legally divorced. The husband paid alimony of Rs 5 Lacs by cheque and Rs 15 Lacs by cash in lumpsum after separation towards maintenance. Is it taxable in the hands of the lady. Can the section regarding this be quoted please. Also would like to know which ITR to be filed AY 2019-20 and where to be shown in this case.

Please suggest.

26 July 2019 Alimony payments will fall under new tax rules starting in 2019. ... Under the new regulations, the individual who pays alimony to an ex-spouse will no longer be able to deduct those payments. And the recipient of the money will no longer pay taxes on that income.
No need to file any ITR the receipt is not taxable.

01 August 2019 Thanks Sir for your expert guidance.
