When income tax issued notice u/s 142(1) on assesse?

10 February 2015 In which case Dept issue notice u/s 142(1). becoz as I read an article regarding 142(1) where is was mentioned "Dept issue notice 142(1) on assesse when Income tax return was not filled by him of any of the previous year." But My company received notice in the same section which asks supporting in rely with the return already filed by company.

10 February 2015 For the purpose of making an assessment under this Act, the Assessing Officer may serve notice u/s 142(1) on any person who has made a return under section 139.

10 February 2015 Seetharaman sir, is notice u/s 142(1) issued on those assessee who have not filled their return or on those asseesse who have already filled return but there is a doubt in mind of Assessing officer.
