Also note at the time of TDS return you need to be more careful for setting this challan payment in two Qtrs if you are doing so.

26 May 2010 The Income tax database, in case of e filing, does not accept one challan in more than 1 quarter.

In my view, the excess payment can be adjusted in next month, but in the same quarter.

26 May 2010 I agree with Mr.Bansal,It can be adjusted in the same Financial year. Even excess payment in one quarter the same challan can show excess and adjust the same challan what ever excess is there in subsequent quarter.some time such adjustment you may recive the notice from NSDL that time it can be explained in written letter and inform your TDS circle the same and it will be accepted by the Department ( This is My practical experiance)
