Service Tax on freight

Please help me out regarding the following :
Our client is a trading company in bangalore. While invoicing, it adds some freight charges in the bills. Whether this freight charges is liable for service tax or not. Also, if VAT needs to be charged on the freight charges?

The ST on transportation \by road is payable not on amount charged in invoice along with material but on the transportation bills issued by the GTA.
Local VAT law would have to be examined if the deduction is allowed.
