A user is seeking expert assistance regarding a TDS refund of £100,000 through the TRACES portal for AY 2022-23. Despite unfreezing the challan and filing a revised return, the system is only allowing a refund of £7,473, leaving a significant portion of the deposited amount unclaimed. The user is questioning the restriction, seeking to understand if there are minimum refund limits or other system constraints at play, and how to successfully claim the full £100,000 refund.

I filed the TDS return and later filed a revised return with the correct details. Due to this issue, the challan was frozen. However, we have now got the challan unfrozen.
Now, while applying for the refund through Form 26B on the TRACES portal, the system is showing the maximum refund amount as only 7473 against the total challan amount of 100000.00. We are unable to apply for the full refund.
I would like to understand the following:
Why is TRACES allowing a refund of only 7473 instead of 100000.00?
Is there any minimum refund amount or any other limit for claiming a TDS refund?
Could this problem be due to the original TDS return, revised TDS return, or challan details?
Since the challan has already been unfrozen, is any further correction or action required?
How can we claim the full refund of 100000.00 ?
Has anyone faced a similar issue and successfully received the full refund? If yes, please share the procedure.
I would be grateful for guidance from CAs and tax professionals who have handled similar cases.
Our objective is to claim the full refund of 100000.00 as the TDS was deducted and deposited by mistake.

The restriction of the TRACES refund to ₹7,473 against a ₹100,000 challan after unfreezing typically stems from challan consumption patterns, revised return adjustments, or system-calculated net tax liability limits. Resolving this requires verifying the detailed challan utilization report and statement computation on the portal.

I checked the challan consumption statement on TRACES. The details are as follows:
Original Challan Amount: 100007.00
Date of Deposit: 7 May 2022
Financial Year: 2021–22
Form Type: 27Q
Total Consumed Amount: ₹7
Available Amount as per OLTAS:100000
Maximum Refund Allowed on TRACES: ₹7473
Remaining Available Balance: 92527
As per the statement, almost the entire challan amount remains available. However, TRACES is restricting the refund to 7473.
Since TDS was deducted and deposited by mistake, and the revised TDS return has already been filed and the challan unfrozen, I would like to understand why the system is allowing only a partial refund.
My specific questions are:
Why is the maximum refund limited to ₹7473 when the available challan balance is ₹92527 ?
Is this restriction related to the revised TDS return or the processing of the original return?
Can the full refund of 100000.00 be claimed through Form 26B, or is a different procedure required?
Which report or computation should be checked to identify the exact reason?
I would appreciate practical guidance from anyone who has handled a similar case.

You have to check the reason in Intimation of processing of TDS return for reason of difference in Refund amount and balance amount. Further need to check portal for exact solution.
