Income from house property

25 August 2018 i have two residential houses, one is rented and the other vacant. i am a salaried government employee and live in a different city on rent for which i get HRA.
Can I show one of the property as self occupied or do I have to show a notional rent on vacant house also.

25 August 2018 You can show one house as self occupied and claim HRA exemption in view of different place of employment.

25 August 2018 Sir, you mean to say that I should show the rent received from rented property as income from house property. and the vacant house as self occupied so -nil annual value and hence no income from house property .

26 August 2018 Sir,the last query- I am living in different city and paying rent and getting HRA for which I shall claim exemption also. Still I can show the vacant property as self occupied.or have to show some notional rent

26 August 2018 Yes no problem in showing one house as self occupied and due to employment staying in a different place paying rent and claim HRA. Same place employment only HRA not allowed.
