in A.Y. 2008-09
My one client have paid his SA tax. But initially he paids it for A.Y. 2007-08. That was really a mistake by him. What is the procedure for claiming refund for that A.Y. i.e...He used to file return online....pls help

Note : He has cleared all dues in respect of IT.

29 September 2009 Dear Suraj,
For the A.Y. 2008-09 the last date to file a revised return is 31-03-2010. If you have filed your return of income for 2008-09 within the time then you can revise your return of income.
You have to file revise return for the A.Y. 2008-09.
Claim the refund in that return.
Also submit a request letter with the ITO that the challan had been wrongly paid for different assessment year. Alongwith this letter if possible submit copy of your income tax return of A.Y. 2007-08 to show that you have not taken credit of tax paid in that year. Also enclose an affidavit clarifying the issue.
Even if the A.O. does not allow the refund order then submit appeal with the C.I.T. ( appeal ) . You will surely get the refund .
