let me know the applicability of tds on the below:
1.rent paid of Rs. 1.6 lacs durung FY 10-11 to the individual
2.purchase of printer and toner in one bill itself

1. Limit for rent u/s 194I is Rs 1.8 Lacs so TDS deduction not required.
2. TDS is not required to be deducted on purchase transactions.

in any of the above case you are required to deduct the TDS...
In the first casees, the amount doesnot exceed the Threshold limit and hence no TDS will be applicable
