Taxability of SIP Investments on redemption or selling.

This query is : Resolved

25 July 2008 Dear Expert,

I have invested money in SIPs on an annual basis for the purpose of S-80C. I would like to know what will be the tax implications when the money will be redeemed after a lock in period of 3 years or when i sell the units after the lock in period?

02 April 2012 You will have to compute the period of holding of EACH SIP instalment separately.

If the period of holding is 12 months or more, then the gain shall be long term capital gain and shall be exempt.

If the period of holding is less than 12 months then the gain shall be short term capital gain.
