Tax treatment on share dealing

My frnd is a student, he was dealing with shares before 1 year. Now income tax department send a letter for this.What will he do?

Tax has to be paid and return has to be filed for any taxable income earned. In case of below taxable income/loss incurred reply to the notice stating no taxable income earned.
