im a foreign citizen, residing outside India. suppose U.S, ive bought debentures of an indian co. situated there, the interest which i receive will be treated as deemed to accrue or arise in india? since source is india. but it has accrued outside india and received ouside india. if i am not wrong. plz explain.

It depends upon the fact that from where your interest payments are originating. 1. If the Co. is situated in U.S. and you have invested there only, means the interest has accrued & received at there only and it is not taxable in India for an NRI. 2. If you have invested in India, Interest would be taxable.

thanx. and debentures are with respect to a company rite? or it is with respect to the place? can there be a concept like me investing in an indian co. in u.s? is it different from investing in india in the same co.?
