It is not mandatory to register trade mark for your product or services, but for people awareness and for your company brand value it is required to get your product register.

Yes, it is not necessary, however, in order to prevent others from using the brand value of your products trademark is obtained. Trademark prohibits others from using the exclusive rights of the owner of trade mark.
If your name is trademark protected, no other person can legally use such name, even no company would be incorporated with the same name.
