Dear Expert,
if we pay any amount directly to any news paper as advertisement charges, is tds deductible?
amount is 100000/-
what is the rate of TDS?
paid to Sakshi news paper
what is the effect is payment made to publication agent?

TDS under sec 194 C is attracted for single payament over 20000 and/or total paymemt of 50000 to the receiver in a year.
rate of tds from 01.10.09
1% if payee is Individual/HUF
2% for all other .
If payment is made to agent then itb would depend on the nature of contract if the agent is subcontractor then same as above
If agent is collecting commision then it may attract 194H

Beg to differ
w.e.f 01.10.09 rate under sec 194 c depends not on the nature of contract ( advertising or not) but on the status of the payee.
So it may be 1 may be 2 now.
