20 May 2011 dear sir,
i have received a notice under section 200A of i.t act. for Short payment of TDS.
what we have to do.
should we just pay the penalty or we have to revised tds return also.
please help

20 May 2011 Pay the TDS with penalty and than submit revised return

20 May 2011 First of all check the reasons of short payment. If short payment is on account of mistakes made while filing the return then file revise the TDS return and report the same to the deptt. No payment will be required to be made.

If there is actual short deduction then just pay the demand no need to file revised TDS return.

as i have seen there was actual short deduction. so please can you help me where to pay tax online in which head and if any notice is required to be given to the department

20 May 2011 Pay the amount through ITNS 281 and then write a letter to the department along with a copy of challan informing that payment has been made
