Rectification of defective return

I HAD FILED AN ITR 4S FOR THE A.Y. 2013-14 WITHIN DUE DATE.MY OCCUPATION IS INCOME FROM SALARY AS WELL COMMISSION FROM LIC.
HOWEVER AFTER FILING THE ABOVE RETURN, I GOT A NOTICE FROM INCOME TAX U/S 139(9).
PLEASE SUGGEST ABOUT THE FOLLOWING :--
1. CAN I CHANGE THE RETURN FILED FROM ITR 4S TO ITR 4 ?
AND
2. WHAT IS THE TIME LIMIT FOR RECTIFICATION OF THE DEFECT ?

Dear Gautam,
Time limit to rectify defect u/s 139(9) is 15 days or the time limit allowed by AO. Further AO can grant extension to this.
As per my knowledge alongwith notice you would have also got some list of defects. If the said list says you are required to file ITR 4S then you can file. I suggest once again go through list and proceed further accordingly.
Let me know for any further clarification.
