12 July 2012 Unless the querist informs the state, the answer cannot be correctly given.

Regarding Service tax the normal rate is 12.36% and Excise duty also 12.36%. The ED rate is not common to all commodities. It starts from 1.03%, 2.06%, 6.18% and 12.36%.The general vat rate is 5% and 14% or 14.5% and it varies state to state.wct also.

There are abatements for certain services and also in excise for certain commodities..
