During the FY 2008-09, we took over a company and change the name and by mistake applied for a fresh PAN instead of changing the name for the existing company. Department also issued a new PAN. The change of name process completed during the I Qtr of FY 09-10. The company filed their return for FY 08-09 in the new pan number. FY 08-09 TDS receivable are in the old PAN number. The TDS receivable is mainly from Bank interest. They have correctly quoted the old pan number. Since the return filed in the New Pan number we are not in a position to get the refund.

Q1. Is it possible for Bank to file a revised return with the New Pan number?
Q2. Is the PAN number are retrospective or prospective.

23 November 2011 You can surrender one PAN to the department with an application and the transaction will be forwarded to another number.

24 November 2011 Thanks for your response. My question Is the bank can issue a revised TDS certificate for the period AY - 2008-09 (New PAN got regiserted in AY 2009-10) in the new PAN Number by filing a revised return to department (Normally they will do in case if the bank wrongly update the PAN number)
