E-payment of tax....... urgent need

18 January 2012 DEAR SIR,
I HAVE TO PAY TAX FOR A.Y 2011-12 THROUGH E-PAYMENT(CHALLAN 280)
TYPE OF PAYMENT IS SILF ASSESSMENT TAX BUT FILLING FORM AN ERROR IS SHOWN AS "ASSEEMENT YEAR CANNOT BE GREATER THAN CURRENT FINANCIL YEAR FOR TYPE OF PAYMENT SELECT BY YOU.
WHAT ITS MEAN ? I HAVE TO FILE ITR FOR AY 2001-12( MAY I FILE ITR FOR AY 2011-12 TILL MAR 2012 ) HOW CURRENT YEAR IS GREATER THAN ASSESSMENT YEAR

18 January 2012 No it should not happen if you select the Self Assessment Tax Option. It will show only if you select the Advance Tax option.
Please check again and see you select the Self Assessment Tax option and Ay as 2011-12

19 January 2012 1. (a) Select Tax Applicable - (0021)Income Tax Other than Companies
(b) Select AY as 2011-12.
(c) Select type of payment (300) Self Assessment Tax.
It will not give any error.

2. You can file the return till 31.03.2012 but penalty of Rs. 5,000/- can be levied for late filing of return.
