Challan 280 details update

I have tax demand for AY 2009-10. I have paid it through Challan 280 for AY 2009-10 now. What should i do to get it adjusted against tax demand?

Just write a letter in response of the demand notice stating that payment has been made anf attach a copy of the challan.
