Is there any technical difference between a merchant bank and an investment bank firm? Can these two words be used interchangably?

Earnings Per Share

In a financial organization the EPS has been caclculated as
Net profit available to equity shareholders/No. of ordinary shares outstanding

The organization is considering Net profit available to equity shareholders before distributing Preference dividend,Interest and Income Tax......now they are distributing the same as dividend after deducting preference dividend and interest from the above said profit to the equity holders ....

is this procedure correct???

please also tell me what could be the intention of that organization in doing so???

ESI applicability to companies

My question is about the applicability of ESI act to companies which has more than 20 employees (in the case of establishments working without the aid of power).

The query is whether
- it applies to companies which has more than 20 employees irrespective of the amount of salary of each employee

or

- to companies only if the no. of employees (whose salary doesn't exceed 10k p.m) crosses twenty.
