16 December 2009 Strange case. 2 group companies - 'a' & 'b'. Service tax liability of 'a' paid inadvertently by 'b' vide enet using wrong user id. Result- 'a' - short paid & 'b' - excess paid.Dept.not accepting any request for contra adjustment.Letters fm 'b' also provided.
Any relief ? Would the Chief Controller of Accounts / Commsnr. ( same jurisdiction ) be able to do a contra or is theren't any scope other than paying fm 'a' & applying refund fm 'b' ? Pls help

16 December 2009 Pay the short paid tax along with interest. Adjust the excess paid in furture motnhs. If amount not adjustable in short term say 6 months, then apply for refund.
