Whether pension of state government employee is exempt

My mother is retired employee of State Government of Maharashtra. Is monthly pension received is exempt from tax.
Please advise me... Thanks in advance
But commuted pension in case of govt employee or employee of local authority is fully exempt if commutation is as per their rules

Thanks... so monthly pension received will liable to tax under income from salaries as per existing income tax slabs
