13 July 2009 I have filed TDS returns on varous softwares like Spectrum and Webtel. But please let me know the relevance of file validation utility with extension of .fvu file that is available on TIN NSDL site. Please let me know the entire usefulness of .fvu files.

14 July 2009 .fvu file is generated after verification of tds return text file. The application have been given some parameters on the basis of which it generate the .fvu file.

Mentioning some parameters for your info.
1. BSR codes of all authorised branches to whom the tax collection authority given
2. Check calculations for total tds in the return with challan amount. Eg. Total tds deducted is Rs. 10K but whereas challan amount is only 8K, then it will show the error.
3. Serial Nos of the deductee as per challan.
4. The .fvu file is generated in the specified format of NSDL. Which will in trun helps NSDL & dept. to give the credit to PAN of deductee also it will veririfed he challan entry with the challan entry at NSDL server.

Please let me know also that whether the fvu updates are available on the nsdl site and if i install them on my computer whether my software like spectrum etc. gets automatically updated with the installation of the same.
