Can an assessee adjust TDS erroneously tendered in excess in one year,across different year ?

Wat if the assesse has made adjustment of TDS erroneously paid in 2010-11 with TDS liability of 2011-12.

Demand will be raised for ay 2011-12 but i do not think the return will validate if such adjustment is made.
