A user has received a default notice for short deduction of TDS in their 24Q return, specifically for failing to deduct and pay the 4% Education Cess. They are considering two options: paying the default amount or filing a revised return. The revised return option involves claiming a missed Rs. 50,000 standard deduction, which would reduce the total income and consequently the TDS and Cess payable. The user is seeking advice on which course of action to take.

We have received default for short deduction of TDS in 24Q return. We have failed to deduct and pay 4% Education cess. Now I have two options
1. Pay the default 2. I have missed to deduct Rs. 50,000 standard deduction. So, can I file revised return by deducting standard deduction? By this, the total income comes less and the TDS+CESS is less than what we have deducted.
