Taxability on shares and commodities

This query is : Resolved

28 August 2012 Dear Experts,

My client is a salaried employee and he is trading in shares and commodities, as he dealing with these for speculation, I considered it under PGBP.
He has profit from Shares trading (Short term) and loss from commodities trading (short term, now my doubt is can I treat theses two tradings as one business or need to consider them as separate businesses and opt for set off?

31 August 2012 can consider the same business

07 September 2012 As to my opinion, both are taxable under different heads, share comes under CG and derivative will come under other sources
