24 September 2012 My brother has paid Stamp duty & registration charges of Rs.1.92 lacs in FY 2012-13. The property is under construction & the possession is expected in 36 months. Can he claim the said amount as deduction u/s 80c in the current FY 2012-13?

24 September 2012 stamp duty, registration fee and other expenses for the purpose of transfer of such house property to the assessee,(Agreement to transfer are included in the definition of transfer) Sine you have registered the agreement then you will get the benefit of 80C in the financial year 2012 13

25 September 2012 HI Amol Sir.... Thanks for your quick reply...But my question is , the property is under construction and the possession is expected in 30 months, so is my brother eligible to claim deduction for Stamp duty and Registration charges for an under construction property u/s 80 C...

22 December 2021 Yes, in the same year of payment it can be claimed, even for under construction residential property.
