I had applied for addition of one service online through form st 1. Now i have received the confirmation from the department in online form st 2. Now is it mandatory to get that form stamped from the department physically as department is taking rs 1000 to stamp the same form??

Yes. Service tax certificate received by mail need to be taken printout & sign & stamped by the department, but there is no charge for the same.

For want of express clarification to the contrary, the general rule has to be followed meaning thereby an official document have validity if and only if it contains signature and seal of the issuing authority.
