Slary Income below 500000 - Whether to file return of income

Dear Friends,
My brother is getting salary income below five lakhs . Other than that what he is getting is very few interest on savings bank account ( less than 2000 for the whole year) . But he has not furnished the savings bank interest details to the employer.
Is he required to file return of income in the current year ? Kindly explain.

According to me interest income is chargeable under the Income from other source and which is not related to the salary income.
