28 July 2010 One of my reletive want to claim an amount of Rs.40000/- U/s:80DDB towards medical treatment to his father(his father was a retired govt employee). His father sufer seriour Disease (Cancer) from the past 5 years. Is it he is eligible to claim treatment expenditure towards his father disease U/s.80DDB (his father dependent on him)

28 July 2010 Malignant cancer is a specified disease under rule 11DD for the purpose of deduction under section 80DDB. If your friend had actually paid the amount for medical treatment during the previous year and if he/she could obtain a certificate in Form No.10 I read along with rule 11DD(2), 80DDB can be claimed.
