Rectification of belated return

if an item of expenditure is omitted to enter in I T R and it filed after due date (belated) ,then is it possible to rectify the return by entering the said amount of expenditure .if so how? and when? .kindly provide the details

Only returns filed u/s 139(1) can be revised. No belated returns can be revised.

There is no option of such rectification. either you can ignore the mistake or you can request (in written along with supporting) to your Assessing officer to doing so. It is totally upon him, how he/she is reacting over your request.

From AY 2017-18, even belated returns can be revised, within specified time limit.
