re:freight payment to transporter

18 February 2010 we are a distributor firm of petroleum company. we have purchased goods from petroleum company.we have paid freight charges to transporter RS 8000.he has charged
service tax in the note.
i want to know whether in this case service tax will be deposited by us or transporter or petroleum company.if paid by us on what amount & when to deposit it.

19 February 2010 First see whether he is a GTO ( owner/ operator) or a GTA ( booking aganert) who has issued a consignment note.
If GTA then the person liable to pay the freight ( either you or petroleum co) would have to register and pay the ST.
