as we know that service tax code for payment of tax has been changed w.e.f 01/07/2012...but what if an assessee has paid service tax under the same old code for the period july to sept 2012? is there any remedy for this?

It is a technical error and therefore there will be no issue.
Please should inform the concerned superintendent in writing to avoid future complications and also mention this fact while filing the return

As per CBEC circular 58/2003 service tax is not required to be deposited again in such cases. Only make a request to the concerned officer for correction in their records.
