31 July 2015 Dear Experts,

If an Indian Citizen goes from India to abroad for employment purposes and eventually becomes an NRI then his income(salary) is not taxable even if he remits the money from that country to India to his parents for their maintenance.

1. Please confirm that abovementioned statement is correct?

2. If yes, what will be the taxability if the employer, himself, of that person remits his salary to his parents in India?

Thanks in advance.

31 July 2015 in case one, it wont be taxable. In case 2, it should be taxable as the salary is being directly received in India.

01 August 2015 Thanks for your reply sir.

Now if that NRI has received few months' salary directly credited by his employer into his parents' bank account and few months' salary is sent by NRI himself?

Then would it be the case that salary for the whole year would be taxable?

01 August 2015 no. only the income directly received in India will be taxed here.
