Money lost in stock market related scam

23 July 2025 Dear Sir/ Madam,

Mr. A, a senior citizen, trades in the stock market and the F&O market, generating LTCG, STCG, and F&O profit and loss. He lost Rs. 20 lakhs in stock market-related online scam. He filed FIR, etc.
How can we treat this scam loss? Can it be set off against F&O profits?
Please guide.

24 July 2025 No sir. It was related to buy sell of shares, ipo shares. Not related to f&o trades.

24 July 2025 So, you can claim it against your capital gains & not from F&O market trade.

25 July 2025 Same as the in Schedule 'capital gain'. The amount invested minus amount realized/about to be realized would be capital loss.

26 July 2025 Sir, they just shared fake details on WhatsApp. No actual transactions were carried out nor the purchase cost-sale amounts provided, no documents... it happened on WhatsApp... now those messages are also not available.. so difficult to show as any purchase or sale amount...
