06 May 2010 A person has taken a mediclaim in feb,2010 for the family for rs.12,000/-valid for 2 years through credit card. He has converted the amount to EMI of rs.650/- pm starting from May,2010 for 24 months. now, he got the premium receipt/policy documents stating that for F.Y.2009-10-rs.1000, F.Y.2010-11 rs.6000/- F.Y.2011-12-rs.5000/-.
now the query is how much he can claim deductions U/S 80 D ,
1) Rs.1000/- as per policy documents,
2) NIL as not paid from his a/c
3) Rs.12000/- whole amount as paid by CC dept.

07 May 2010 as per 80D deduction is available to amount which is paid.
So in your case for A.Y. 2010-11 only 1000/- is allowed as it is only amount which is paid.
after A.Y. 2008-09 it is arranged that premium can be paid by any mode other than cash so credit card is allowed.
