11 August 2010 sir a pan no.(ALEPD4422E)sir what is the means of fourth alphabet (p) as per my knowledge the fourth alphabet of pan no.is shown that the party is huf. firm or co. than sir plz tell me what is the means of this pan no. is it firm or huf

The fourth character of the PAN must be one of the following, depending on the type of assessee:

C — Company
P — Person
H — Hindu Undivided Family (HUF)
F — Firm
A — Association of Persons (AOP)
T — AOP (Trust)
B — Body of Individuals (BOI)
L — Local Authority
J — Artificial Juridical Person
G — Govt

11 August 2010 I think all above are persons under the Act.
4th alphabet in the pan card denotes the status of the assessee. then P should be for individuals.(Personal)
