07 February 2012 NRI given his commercial building for rent and rental income is > Rs.10 lakh in a year. In this case is the NRI or Recipient of the service is liable to service tax?

07 February 2012 yes. Need to charge service tax and pay service tax

My query is Who is responsible to collect the service tax? Is it a receiver of service or provider of service is responsible.

09 February 2012 Service provider is responsible for register and charge service tax on rent. service receiver (such as tenant) need to pay service tax.

Property owner collect from tenant and need to pay to Govt.
