Interest payment on default of tds

06 February 2012 Dear Sir,
We had received an email from NSDL of Default on TDS on which only interest is short payable.
Now we want to deposit th e Interest then in which section it is to be deposit i.e whether 200 or 400.
Please provide me attachment as a valid proof for the sections

06 February 2012 It will be code 400 TDS/TCS Regular assessment (Raised by I.T.Department). this is code for accounting your payment in CBDT, not related to any sections.

Code name itself raised by IT department. so because of default I.T raised the demand. need to show as 400

07 February 2012 Dear Sir,
I still had a query as per your reply it should be section 400 but section 400 relates to Regular Assessment.
We had received only an email and not a physical notice.
We had also received short interest default email under various Expenses (194C,194J,194I).
Please reply and help us in this regard at the earliest.

07 February 2012 First of all 400 is not section, it is just a accounting code for payment of TDS. so in case you received notice from your ITO, then you can mention 400, otherwise you can choose 200 also.
