Incometax refund cheque query

01 December 2011 hello,

one of our client has received a cheque of refund late. as cheque is valid for 3 months from the date of issue but my cline has received the cheque after the three months left from the date of issue.
his return is filled manually, but cheque has been received under cpc system, of sbi only.
pls give me right direction what to do in case..?

02 December 2011 Dear Bhavik,

RBI reduced from 6 to 3 months on 23rd November 2011, its fine, but its w.e.f 01.04.2012 banks wont accept the cheques dated more than 3 months from date of issue, so need to worry.

i m worried already and know what you say.
thats why i ask question
that wats the solution of this to follow..., if u can guide.
is assessing officer has power or we require to contact sbi?

13 December 2011 If the cheque has become stale, You will have to write a letter to the AO with whom you had filed the return of income to issue a new cheque in lieu of the original cheque.

13 December 2011 thanks siddarha , and i got the solution of the same, as i call at helpline no.

if cheque is from cpc we need to file later with that cheque at banglore address and from that a new cheque will be received.
