26 November 2010 For income tax purpose an indivudal can submit House Rent receipt from the Father. Can husband submit House rent receipt from the spouse stating that the house belongs to his wife and he is paying rent to her?What are the provisions in Income Tax in this regard?

26 November 2010 You cannot give rent to your spouse and show that in the records. The rerationship between spouse is not to be considered as the seperate.

26 November 2010 Legally possible since tax laws does not prohibit so. However, I support the view of Mr.Singh since as per Indian conditions wife is supposed to live with the husband as per custom without taking a commercial advantage out of that relation.

26 November 2010 income tax does not recognize any commercial relation between spouse, hence, rent paid to spouse would not be admissible.
