For businesses with turnover over 5 crore, GST payment for March 2020 was due within 15 days to avoid interest. While GSTR-3B and GSTR-1 filing could be deferred until June, payment (setting off liability) must be made by the original due date. The government offered relief measures due to COVID-19, extending the interest-free payment window to 5th May 2020 and allowing late fee exemption for filing until 24th June 2020.

Return date is payment (set off liability) date. Amount deposit is not consider as payment date in GST. So, Pay and File GSTR 3B return as per due date.

Pay the gst and set off liability in both the cash and credit ledger and file your gstr-3b return for month of march2020. Government has deferred interest free up to 15 days from the due date , so due date is 05.05.2020 if you want to enjoy free interest, after 05.05.2020, interest @9% will be payable. The government has also provide option for filing by 24.06.2020 if you want to free late fee. If return is filed after this date, late fee will be payable. So date extension not given by government, only some relief measures have prescribed due to vividh 19.
