I have worked in a company for less than 5 years and left it due to personal issues. As I didn't get work for almost 4 months I withdrew all my EPF amount. Since the amount was withdrawn after I left the company, this withdrawal amount is not showing in form 16.
Since I have done the full EPF withdrawal before 5 years, so i am confused as to how to show this amount in ITR 2. I wanted to ask few questions: 1. Employer Contribution and Interest on it - Where to show in ITR 2 2. Employee Contribution and Interest on it - Where to show in ITR 2 3. I have not claimed EPF deduction in my ITR in earlier years, so the amount which I have not claimed as deduction in earlier years, where should i show that amount. (EPFO has deducted TDS on all amount by the way)

1. Employer Contribution + Interest (Withdrawn before 5 years) This amount is fully taxable as salary income in the year of withdrawal. Show it under “Income from Salaries” in ITR-2. Add the employer’s contribution along with interest accrued (since it’s taxable) to your salary income. 2. Employee Contribution + Interest (Withdrawn before 5 years) The employee’s own contribution is exempt, but interest on employee contribution is taxable if withdrawn before 5 years. So, show: Employee’s contribution: No need to add again (you already got exemption in earlier years). Interest earned on employee contribution: Include under “Income from Other Sources” or “Income from Salaries” (many treat it as salary income for clarity). 3. Deduction Claimed Earlier? Since you did not claim deduction for employee’s contribution earlier (under Section 80C), the entire employee contribution + interest is taxable now (because exemption was not claimed earlier). But as EPFO has deducted TDS, report the gross amount under respective heads, and claim TDS credit in ITR.
