This discussion clarifies tax implications for gifts made from a joint savings account held by a husband and wife. The advice given is that there are no tax implications for the recipient (the sister) when a gift is made from a joint account. A formal gift deed is not necessary; a simple letter on plain paper suffices to document the gift.
