Deduction in case of tuition fees

15 May 2013 Can An assessee having income from business or profession claim deduction for tuition fees paid of children ?
What should be the mode of payment of fees ?
Is it applicable to fees paid to colleges and universities for degree or PG ?
What is the applicability and limits ?

15 May 2013 MR Mohit Bothra,

Yes he can claim deduction under section 80C only of tuition fees and it should not include any capital fees or development fees paid during the year .

limit will be of Rs 100000 as usual ... There is no bar on number of children as in children education allowance .

Yes it is applicable even for colleges and universities but for own children .not for relatives ...

Fees can be paid by cash draft Cheque, Rs 20000 Sec 40A (3) does not apply to it .
