There is no expiry period of service tax credit.
If the credit has been correctly claimed, then it is carried forward indefinitely.

Previously Service tax credit can be taken when the payment made to the service provider , incase of reverse charge when the payment is made to government. Agreed with Siiddartha
you can take cenvat credit at any time if you have valid documents to establish the same.
