30 August 2010 What is the procedure for cancellation of PAN & TAN obtained for company, as the private limited company has filed necessary forms with Registrar of Companies for closure of the company.

Ans : ................

Whether the company should immediately cancel its PAN Card & TAN after filing the necessary forms with RoC for its closure or only after the confirmation and approval of company's name struck off from the name of RoC Register.

1.As per my understnading PAN and TAN cannot be cancelled. But it can be deactivated on an application by the assessee. For PAN deactivation an application in the prescribed form viz"apllication for correction...." along with the original PAN card may be submitted through NSDL or UTITSL offices.
As far as TAN is concerned an application in plain paper stating the reason for deactivation may be filed before the Jurisdictional CIT (TDS) through the TDS officer.
2.The above course of action may be taken only after the confirmation of striking off.
