Advance tax for wrong assessment year

12 July 2015 Dear Sir,
An assesse had paid advance tax for A.Y. 2016-17 which should be for A.Y. 2015-16 on June'2015 and now he has noticed that the assessment year is incorrect in the challan. He approaches the bank for correction but they told he has to approach the I.T. department for correction but the assesse has no time to go to the department so he wants to pay self assessment tax for A.Y. 2015-16 which is due and file the return for this year and he is asking that if it is possible to take this payment of advance tax in the next year's return i.e. A.Y. 2016-17 which he has already paid in June'2015 and which is also reflected in 26 AS for the A.Y. 2016-17.

Please give a suitable suggestion at the earliest.

12 July 2015 Yes it can be taken in the return of AY 2016-17. No issues with that. But if you want to get the AY corrected in challan data then you will have to meet your jurisdictional AO.
