03 August 2025 Here’s a quick guide based on your query about joining CA, appearing for CPT, and timing for PCC 1 (now called CA Intermediate):

---

### 1. When can you appear for **CPT** (now called **CA Foundation**)?

* **CPT (Common Proficiency Test)** was the old name. It is now replaced by **CA Foundation**.
* CA Foundation exams are conducted **twice a year**:

* May exam (usually in the 1st or 2nd week of May)
* November exam (usually in the 1st or 2nd week of November)
* You can register for CA Foundation after passing your 10+2 (12th standard).
* Registration must be done at least **4 months before the exam** to be eligible to appear.

---

### 2. After clearing **CPT/CA Foundation**, when can you attempt **PCC 1** (now called **CA Intermediate**)?

* Once you clear CA Foundation, you can register for CA Intermediate.
* There is **no mandatory waiting period** after clearing CA Foundation to appear for Intermediate exams.
* However, to appear in Intermediate, you must register for the course and complete a minimum of **8 months of study** (including 3 months of compulsory study period before the exam).
* **You can appear for the Intermediate exams after completing 8 months of registration**.

---

### Summary Timeline

| Stage | Minimum Time After Previous Step | When to Appear? |
| -------------------------------- | -------------------------------- | -------------------------------------- |
| CA Foundation (CPT) Registration | 4 months before exam | May or November exam twice a year |
| CA Intermediate Registration | After clearing Foundation | After minimum 8 months of registration |

---

### Extra Tips

* Register early to get the study materials on time.
* Use ICAI study material and mock tests.
* Manage your time well, as CA exams are challenging.
