CAN WE UTILIZE BALANCE OF PLA FOR THE DISCHARGE THE LIABILITY OF BASIC EXCISE DUTIES.CAN WE MERGE ALL HEADS BALANCE IN ONE HEAD I.E OF BASIC EXCISE DUTY.

The circular has been arrived that you can utilised basic excise duty from edu. cess and SHE cess after 1.03.2015.

Dear Ashwin,
The balance in PLA was and can always be used for discharge of duty liability of basic excise duty.
If the question is that can the balance of cesses, which came into the RG 23 register post March 1, 2015, be utilised towards payment of basic excise duty; then the reply given by Mr. Arun is correct.
However, while preparing the E.R. 1 Return online, CURRENTLY, you would not be able to show the transfer of amount from E Cess and SHE Cess to Basic.
It has been reported that the software is not accepting such transfer.
Hence do calculate your duty liability, pay it using appropriate balances and show the balances properly keeping the above in mind.
